Matthew Royal has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Matthew started their career as a Lab Assistant at Penn State University in 2004. In 2005, they worked as a Lab Assistant at Tohoku University. From 2006 to 2012, they served as a Research Assistant and Graduate Student at Duke University. Matthew then worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at Duke University from 2012 to 2014. In 2015, they joined Holographix LLC as an Electro-Optical Engineer, and later moved on to PerkinElmer, Inc. in 2016. At PerkinElmer, they held multiple roles such as Sr Optomechanical Engineer, Sr Optical Design Engineer, and currently, they are serving as the Principal Optical Design Engineer.

Matthew Royal earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Penn State University in 2006. Matthew then pursued their Master's degree and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Duke University, completing them in 2008 and 2012, respectively. In addition, Matthew obtained certification as an Engineer-in-Training from the Pennsylvania Department of State in 2006.
