Esmeralda Santiago is a prolific author with a career spanning several decades, currently serving as an author at Random House since 1994 and at Perseus Books Group since 1992, where notable works include "WHEN I WAS PUERTO RICAN" and "ALMOST A WOMAN." Santiago is also recognized for contributions to children's literature published by Scholastic and has experience as an author and lecturer at Cantomedia since 1977.
