Jayne A. Cooper

Ms. Cooper is a Staten Island resident with many years experience in the fields of health and human services. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from New York University, and is a licensed clinical social worker in both New York and New Jersey. She also holds a master’s degree in public administration from Long Island University. Ms. Cooper is currently Director of Developmental Disabilities and Early Childhood Mental Health at the Staten Island Mental Health Society, a division of Richmond University Medical Center. Her teaching experience includes teaching sociology/ aging at Wagner College, gerontology at LIU, and courses for the MSW program at the College of Staten Island. Her strong commitment to helping others and human rights has led her to volunteer in many areas. She is past chair of several community coalitions in mental health, aging, HIV/AIDS, and domestic violence, and a past board member/officer for The Staten Island Alzheimer’s Foundation, The Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre Company, Staten Island Network of the National Organization of Italian American Women and the Coalition of Staten Island Women’s Organizations. Ms. Cooper is a current board member of Richmond Home Needs and current board member and past president of Soroptimist International of Staten Island. A member of the Staten Island Developmental Disabilities Council, Ms. Cooper currently chairs its Health and Clinical Services Committee and is a member of the Council’s Executive Board.
