Laboratory Operations Supervisor at PetDx

Orlando Chavez has a wealth of work experience in the medical and laboratory fields. Orlando began their career in 2003 as a Medical Technologist at TriCore Reference Laboratories, where they performed medical laboratory tests on blood and bodily fluids. In 2006, they worked as a Production Chemist at Nanogen, where they formulated intermediate and final reagents for the validation of the NanoChip 400 molecular biology workstation. That same year, they worked as a Toxicology Technologist at LabCorp, where they performed liquid-liquid and solid phase extractions on bodily fluids. From 2006 to 2010, they worked as a Senior Quality Control Associate at Illumina, where they were a subject matter expert on DNA and RNA library preparation techniques. From 2010 to 2012, they worked as an Associate Scientist at Eurofins, where they provided technical analytical review of data packages and verified that all data analysis performed were as per test method and/or compendial methods. In 2018, they worked as an Analytical Development Scientist at Neurocrine Biosciences, where they performed analytical chemistry pharmaceutical analysis on development compounds, drug substance (API) and drug product to support manufacturing, formulations and chemical development. In 2020, they worked as a Senior Research Associate at Ansun Biopharma, Inc., where they carried out analytical chemistry pharmaceutical analysis on development compounds, proteins, DAS181 drug substance and drug product to support drug product development. In 2021, they worked as a Laboratory Operations Supervisor - CLIA at Biological Dynamics, a healthcare company committed to improving global health outcomes by detecting diseases in their earliest stages. Orlando supervised a team of 10 laboratory technicians in study-related clinical procedures and assisted the VP of laboratory operations with resolving problems related to lab processes, procedures and process improvements. Currently, they are working as a Laboratory Operations Supervisor at PetDx, where they supervise a team of 9 clinical laboratory technicians in complex clinical procedures such as cfDNA extractions from plasma, gDNA extractions from white blood cells, Illumina NGS sequencing library preparations and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). Orlando also provides supervision of the laboratory operations team, including scheduling, team development, coaching/mentoring of laboratory staff and bi-weekly team briefings. Additionally, they manage the day-to-day operations for clinical diagnostic testing, including proficiency testing, personnel management and lab safety compliance.

Orlando Chavez attended The University of New Mexico from 1997 to 2002, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
