Assem Sonbol has extensive work experience in the field of electrical engineering and renewable energy. Assem started their career at Karmoleed, where they worked as a Design Engineer, focusing on CAD systems and quality control systems. Assem then worked at Electro Tharwat as a Design Engineer, participating in the design and erection details of power plant components. After that, they joined The Arab Contractors as an Erection Engineer.

In 2000, Sonbol began working at the University of Nevada, Reno, first as a Research Assistant and then as a Teaching Assistant. During this time, they worked on various research projects, including those for NASA. Assem then moved on to PGESCo, a Bechtel entity, and held several roles, including Senior Electrical Engineer, Deputy Electrical Engineer Group Supervisor, and Electrical Engineering Group Supervisor. In these positions, they were responsible for equipment sizing, cable/cable raceway design, and overseeing electrical teams.

Sonbol also worked at the Department of Regulatory Agencies in Colorado, USA, as a Professional Engineer. Assem obtained their license as a Professional Engineer during this time.

Presently, they are the Renewable Energy Business Line Director at PGESCo, where they are responsible for overseeing the company's professional services and coordinating with owners and contractors. Assem also manages project status and progress reporting systems.

Throughout their career, Sonbol has demonstrated expertise in electrical engineering, project management, and renewable energy.

Assem Sonbol has a strong educational background in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Assem obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree from Mansoura University, where they studied from 1989 to 1994. Assem further pursued their education and completed a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in the same field at Mansoura University from 1996 to 1999. Assem then continued their academic journey and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the University of Nevada, Reno from 2000 to 2004, specializing in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

In addition to their formal education, Assem Sonbol has also obtained various certifications to enhance their knowledge and expertise. Assem holds a Professional Engineer (PE) certification from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, obtained in October 2019. Assem has also completed several certification programs in solar energy, including the edX Verified Certificate for Solar Energy: Photovoltaic (PV) Technologies in March 2022, edX Verified Certificate for Solar Energy: Integration of Photovoltaic Systems in Microgrids in September 2021, and edX Verified Certificate for Solar Energy: Photovoltaic (PV) Systems in May 2021. Assem also completed the PV1x: Solar Energy: Photovoltaic (PV) Energy Conversion course provided by edX in March 2021. Assem'sinterest in solar energy is further evident from their completion of the Solar Energy System Design course on Coursera in November 2020 and the Solar Energy Basics course on Coursera in October 2020. Assem Sonbol also possesses the Successful Negotiation: Essential Strategies and Skills certification from Coursera, obtained in September 2020.
