João Mota

João Mota has a diverse work experience in the field of design and publishing. João began their career as a Graphic Designer at the Contemporary Art Museum, where they worked from 2006 to 2007. João then moved on to work as an Assistant Production Manager at Colprinter for a brief period in 2008.

From 2008 to 2009, João worked at Corexpressa, where they had the opportunity to perform various print production and prepress tasks. João gained skills in print finishing and digital production while working with different equipment.

In 2009, João joined Edições tinta-da-china, an independent publishing house, as a Graphic Designer. João managed the complete production process for Art Books, including color management and overall quality control. João also worked in the publishing and design departments, managing the production of titles, stationery, and marketing material.

João then worked as an Art Director at Hariemuj from 2011 to 2013, before joining Black Dog Publishing Inc. João had a dual role as a Senior Designer/Design Manager at Black Dog Publishing, where they balanced their individual portfolio of publication projects with project management of the Design team's broader work. João oversaw the studio workflow, coordinated the design and production of publications and marketing materials, and managed a team of in-house designers.

Currently, João is the Director of Design Operations at Phaidon since September 2021, where they oversee the studio workflow and coordinates the design and production of all publications and marketing materials.

João Mota's education history includes professional training in color management and printing management at Pós Gráficos in 2009. Prior to that, they pursued a Master Degree Graduation in the Design and Technology course in Graphic Arts at Instituto Politécnico de Tomar from 2003 to 2008.
