J. Javier Díaz-Mejía has a wealth of work experience, beginning in 1998 as a Research Assistant for Fundacion Lusara. In 2007, they became a Postdoctoral Scientist for both the University of Toronto and Wilfrid Laurier University, where they re-invigorated a stalled project to establish a bacterial system for drug discovery and took on the leadership of ~15 researchers to consolidate experimental and computational data on 80,000 protein interactions. In 2018, they were a Scientific Associate at the University Health Network, where they led a team of data scientists and software developers building computational tools to analyze cancer single cell datasets. That same year, they also acted as a Scientific Advisor (bioinformatics and computational biology) for Ardra Inc. In 2016, they co-founded a non-for-profit organization, NUTMEG Soccer, to reduce the gap of underserved children accessing recreational activities. Currently, they are the Head of Data Science for Phenomic AI.
J. Javier Díaz-Mejía received their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computational Biology and Biochemistry from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 2007. In 2006, they were a Fulbright-Garcia Robles Scholar Visitor at the University of Notre Dame, studying Systems Biology. J. Javier obtained their Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biology, General from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 2001. In addition, they have obtained three certifications: AI Intellectual Property Workshop from Vector Institute in October 2022, Full Stack Machine Learning on GCP from AICamp in February 2021, and Machine Learning From Theory to Modelling in Python from AICamp in December 2020.
