Gordon Start is an accomplished geologist with extensive experience in both volunteer and professional roles. Currently, Gordon serves as a Volunteer Geologist and Volunteer Geologist Program Coordinator at Philmont Scout Ranch since June 2017, while also advising BSA Crew 1020 and chairing BSA Ship 1701. Additionally, Gordon has been a commissioner for the Sam Houston Area Council, Aquila District since July 2013. Gordon's professional background includes significant tenure at ExxonMobil Exploration from 1985 to March 2020, where roles included Senior Research Advisor and Senior Geoscience Advisor. Earlier in Gordon's career, positions included Geologist at the U.S. Geological Survey from 1976 to 1985 and Scoutmaster for BSA Troop 1020 from February 2005 to April 2014. Gordon holds a Ph.D. in Geology/Earth Science from Brown University and a Bachelor's Degree in Geology/Earth Science from San Francisco State University.
