Wolfgang Fink

Wolfgang Fink, Ph.D. has had a diverse and extensive work experience. Wolfgang started their career in 1998 as a Postdoctoral Scholar in Physics at the California Institute of Technology. Later, they joined the University of Southern California, where they held various research positions in Ophthalmology and Neurological Surgery. In 2009, they became an Associate Professor and the inaugural Edward & Maria Keonjian Endowed Chair at The University of Arizona.

Throughout their career, Fink has also been involved in various leadership roles in professional societies and conferences. Wolfgang served as the Vice President of the Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) Society and was a member of its Executive Board of Directors. Wolfgang also served as the General Chairman of the Annual Conference of the PHM Society in 2019. In addition, they contributed to the IEEE Aerospace Conferences as a Track Co-Chair, Session Co-Chair, and Chair for several sessions related to diagnostics, prognostics, and health management. Moreover, Fink has been actively involved in SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, where they served as a Session Chair and Conference Chair.

Wolfgang has also held positions in industry, serving as the Chief Technology Officer of Ceeable, Inc., a company that specializes in mobile health diagnostics. Additionally, they played a key role as the Founding Board of Directors and Chief Science Officer of the Mars Agricultural Research Consortium, focusing on developing sustainable agriculture practices for potential Mars colonization.

Furthermore, Fink has been involved in academia and education as an Official Faculty Advisor for the National Society of Black Engineers and in various teaching roles at the University of Arizona.

Wolfgang Fink, Ph.D. has a diverse education history. Wolfgang obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Physics from The University of Göttingen in 1990. Wolfgang then pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics from the same university between 1990 and 1993. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics from the University of Tübingen, completing it in 1997. Wolfgang served as a Postdoctoral Scholar in Theoretical Physics at the University of Tübingen from 1997 to 1998, focusing on optical eye defects, 3D ray tracing simulations, computer eye models, and visual field testing. Later, from 1998 to 2001, Fink held the position of Postdoctoral Scholar in Physics at Caltech, where their research areas included astrobiology, chemical reaction networks, protein design, and optimization. Additionally, Fink has obtained several certifications related to helicopter piloting: FAA Private Pilot Rotorcraft/Helicopter License in 1999, FAA Commercial Pilot Rotorcraft/Helicopter License in 2002, and Robinson Helicopter Company Pilot Safety Course in 2003.
