Harlan Spence

Director at Physical Sciences

Professor Spence serves or has served as Principal Investigator (PI) or co-I on numerous NASA, NSF, NOAA, DARPA, and DOD theory, analysis, hardware, and mission contracts and grants of increasing scope and complexity for over ~35 years of his professional career. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Dr. Spence recently served on the Board of Trustees of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, is a member of the NAS Space Studies Board, and is a member of the American Geophysical Union’s Space Physics and Aeronomy Advocacy Committee. In 2010, Dr. Spence was named the third Director of the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space (EOS) at UNH. As Director, Dr. Spence is a member of UNH’s Provost Council. During his more than a decade as EOS Director, Dr. Spence oversaw a major reorganization of the Institute’s business service center.
