Hong Kang

Director of Data Science at Pieces

Hong Kang has worked in the field of data science and natural language processing (NLP) since 2013. From 2013 to 2015, they were a Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Tuebingen, followed by Postdoctoral Research Fellow and CPRIT Postdoctoral Fellow positions at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) from 2015 to 2019. In 2019, they joined Pieces Technologies, Inc. as the Director of Data Science, and has since held Senior Applied Scientist and NLP Scientist roles. In these roles, they have been responsible for developing advanced data science and NLP technologies for end-to-end AI solutions, leveraging both data science and data engineering to architect and develop data-driven solutions, building predictive and descriptive models, and developing clinician-in-the-loop interactive ML systems and other AI solutions.

Hong Kang has a strong educational background. Hong completed their Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2008. Hong then went on to Tongji University to pursue their Master's Degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering, which they completed in 2011. After that, they returned to Tongji University to pursue their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomedical/Medical Engineering, which they completed in 2014. During their Ph.D. studies, they also spent time at the University of Tübingen as an Exchange PhD Student in 2013. In addition, they have obtained certifications such as the Innovation for Cancer Prevention Research Postdoctoral Research Training Program from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) in 2019, INOV101x, Innovation Generation: How to Be Creative from The University of Texas System in 2015, and the Deep Learning Specialization from Coursera Course Certificates.
