Professor Pisano is a founder of eleven start-ups, a co-inventor of more than 35 patents in MEMS, and co-author of over 390 publications. His research interests and activities at UC San Diego include MEMS for applications, including RF components, power generation, drug delivery, strain sensors, biosensors, micro inertial instruments, disk-drive actuators, and nanoimprinted sensors & circuits. Pisano is currently Professor and Dean of the School of Engineering at UC San Diego, jointly appointed into the Departments of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and Electrical & Computer Engineering. Previously, he was a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and a Director of the Berkeley Sensor & Actuator Center at UC Berkeley, with a joint appointment to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Pisano earned a BS, an MS, and a PhD in mechanical engineering at Columbia University.
