Luke Thompson has a strong background in the mining and port industry. Currently working as the Port Manager Lumsden at Pilbara Ports Authority, Luke also held positions such as Maintenance Superintendent and Mechanical Supervisor. Prior to this, Luke worked at Fortescue Metals Group as an Operations Supervisor and at BHP Billiton as a Maintenance Supervisor. With a Diploma of Leadership and Management from the Australian Institute of Management, Luke began their career as an Apprentice Fitter & Machinist at INLINE ENGINEERING LIMITED after graduating from South Hedland Senior High School.

Pilbara Ports is the world’s largest bulk export port authority. It encompasses the ports of Ashburton, Dampier, Port Hedland and Varanus Island, and the future ports of Anketell, Cape Preston East and Balla Balla. Pilbara Ports operates as a Western Australian Government Trading Enterprise, and is governed under the Port Authorities Act 1999 WA. Pilbara Ports is to also assume oversight of a number of other ports currently administered by the Department of Transport under the Shipping and Pilotage Act. These include Barrow Island, Cape Preston, Onslow, and Port Walcott.
