John Hernandez

VP, Sustainability, Arizona Public Service Company at Pinnacle West Capital

John Hernandez is vice president of site services at Palo Verde Generating Station for Arizona Public Service Company (APS). Based in Phoenix, APS is Arizona’s largest energy company and serves more than 1.3 million homes and businesses across the state.

Hernandez oversees Palo Verde supply chain, business operations, facilities, emergency services, administrative controls and support, nuclear strategy & policy, and works closely with the Palo Verde IT team. He is active in leader training and mentoring programs. He joined APS in 2014 and previously served as director, plant engineering, with an operational focus on strengthening reliability and fostering a culture of innovation that resulted in cost reductions across multiple programs. He was also instrumental in the creation of a consequence bias culture for risk management.

Before joining Palo Verde, Hernandez worked in engineering and leadership positions for Areva Inc. and Areva GMBH and served as a systems engineer for Florida Power & Light.

Hernandez earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
