Pedro Serrano-Ojeda

Pedro A. Serrano-Ojeda MD is a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist. He obtained his Bachelor in Science degree from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus, his MD from the Ponce School of Medicine (Puerto Rico) and his Radiation Oncology specialty from the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals and Clinics (Milwaukee). He was mentored by Dr. Frank Wilson, the prodigy student of Dr. Juan de Regatos, founder of Radiation Oncology in the United States, who in turn trained under Marie Currie. This lineage has marked Dr. Serrano; it has given him the impetus to not only treat cancer, but more so, to find a cure. CROC’s statistics of quality assurance for treatment delivery have been published (Med Phys. 2009 Nov; 36(11):4977-83). The quality of a dose plan versus dose received by the patient should not exceed -/+ 3% CROC’s statistics demonstrated a 1.2% variation earning the Clinic’s quality assurance methodology mention in the Report of the American Association of Physics in Medicine Task Group 148 (QA for Helical TomoTherapy).

In 2011, the American Association for Physics in Medicine publication named Caribbean Radiation Oncology Center as part of the guidelines for quality assurance for TomoTherapy technology, setting a new standard for care. The quality control data published has remained unchanged even after reevaluating the clinic’s first 900 cases.

Dr. Serrano has spoken at conferences throughout the U.S. and Latin America on behalf of TomoTherapy and Accuray, the manufacturer of the TomoTherapy technology, to offer insight on his experience with the machines and to teach techniques. The Caribbean Radiation Oncology Center in Puerto Rico has also been visited by physicians and groups from Peru, Argentina, Colombia and Chile.

He is a founding member of the Radiation Oncology Institute, an organization dedicated to educate the public and to prove the true value and role of radiation therapy’s new modalities in these times of economic constraints.

In the summer of 2015 he has opened a new treatment center in Doral, FL. The facility is one of the first in Florida to feature the TomoTherapy HAD unit – the latest TomoTherapy Hi-Art Treatment System and the most integrated and advanced system for comprehensive cancer treatment that is available today

Dr. Serrano has developed and submitted for patent of a radiation enhancer medication that starves the cancer cells, Cancer Starvation Therapy (CST). This is a prodrug that is externally activated by radiation therapy to increase their tumoricidal (cancer killing) capacities. CST has been formally published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (publication date and number – March 3, 2016/US-2016-0058728-A1) and the International Searching Authority Written Opinion PCT application number PCT/US2016/52603 was filed September 20, 2016 and states that CST has Novelty, Inventive Step and Industrial Applicability for all of the submitted 16 claims.
