Chief Nursing Officer at Piper Shores

Peter Sullivan has a diverse work experience with a focus on nursing and healthcare administration. Peter is currently serving as the Chief Nursing Officer at Piper Shores. Prior to their current role, they worked at Birch Bay Retirement Village as the Executive Director from 2017 to 2023, where they were responsible for the overall health care services and general operations. Peter also served as the Director of Health and Resident Services at Birch Bay Retirement Village from 2014 to 2017.

Before joining Birch Bay Retirement Village, Peter Sullivan worked at Mount Desert Island Hospital as a Department Director from 2017 to 2023. Peter was actively involved in strategic planning, operational budgeting, and provided medical education and consultation in elder care and dementia. Additionally, they represented director-level leadership and chaired organizational committees and initiatives.

Peter Sullivan's earlier experience includes working as the Director of Nursing at Sonogee Rehabilitation and Living Center from 2013 to 2014. Prior to that, they worked at HealthPartners as a Nurse Navigator/Personal Health Advocate from 2006 to 2013. Peter provided interpretation of benefits and medical coverage issues, coordinated resources between departments, and offered guidance and support.

In their early career, Peter Sullivan worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Los Niños Hospital from 2005 to 2006 and at Heritage Health Care from 2003 to 2006. At Heritage Health Care, they monitored regulatory compliance, developed infection control and compliance tools, and served as a resource and relief MDS/care coordinator.

Peter Sullivan MBA, RN-BC, LRCA has a diverse education history. In 1995, they obtained their Diploma in Practical Nursing from Lake Superior College. Following this, from 2001 to 2003, they completed an Associate's degree in Legal Studies from International College and an Associate's degree in Law from Hodges University. In 2005, they graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration (BSHA). In 2010, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Health/Health Care Administration/Management from the University of Phoenix. Finally, in 2011, they obtained an Associate's degree in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse from Lake Superior College.

Aside from their degrees, Peter Sullivan has also obtained several certifications. In November 2016, they received certification in Gerontological Nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. In June 2017, they became a Positive Approach to Care Certified Independent Trainer through Possitive Approach, LLC. In January 2018, they obtained a CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification and in May 2018, they became a Certified Dementia Practitioner through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.
