Staff Platform Engineer at Pirum Systems

Isawan Millican has a diverse work experience that spans various roles and industries. In 2011, they worked as a Newspaper Deliverer for MAILBOX DISTRIBUTION LIMITED, where they developed discipline and consistency in delivering newspapers while studying. In 2012, they worked as a Waiter at Baan Thai Restaurant, honing their customer service skills and effectively communicating between Thai-speaking staff and English-speaking customers. From 2015 to 2015, Isawan was self-employed as a Science tutor, providing physics and chemistry tutoring to college-age students in both English and Thai.

In 2016, Isawan joined the University of Nottingham as a Research Student, where they developed statistical software for automated lung damage detection tests and analyzed time series data using MATLAB. In 2018, they continued their research work at the University of Nottingham as a Researcher, using deep learning techniques for medical image segmentation and delivering talks on machine learning to medical physicists.

In 2018, Isawan also started working at Pirum as a Graduate Software Infrastructure Engineer. They then transitioned to the role of DevOps Engineer, where they created the AWS landing zone and infrastructure for CDA, an API-as-a-service product. They utilized GitLab CI/CD and terraform for infrastructure as code, with applications deployed to AWS ECS. Currently, Isawan holds the position of Staff Platform Engineer at Pirum, utilizing their experience and expertise in platform engineering.

Isawan Millican attended Abbot Beyne School from 2007 to 2014, where they completed their A-levels and secondary school education, with a focus on physics. They then pursued further education at the University of Nottingham from 2014 to 2018, where they obtained an MSci degree in physics.
