Paola Buitrago serves as the Director of the AI and Big Data Group at Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center since May 2017, where also holds the position of High Performance Data Analyst Specialist. Previously, Paola contributed as a Scientific Computing Engineer at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory from 2014 to 2016, leading large-scale data processing pilot tests in grid and cloud environments and designing real-time monitoring systems for distributed systems. Paola's academic background includes project engineering for the Cupi2 Project at Universidad de Los Andes, where developed programming tests and implemented object-oriented programming projects, along with teaching various courses in mathematical modeling, simulation, and optimization. Paola co-founded Ingenius®, a start-up focused on private tutoring. Educational achievements include a Master of Science in Systems and Computing Engineering and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering and Systems and Computing Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes, and currently pursuing a PhD at Carnegie Mellon University.
