Marty Bates has over 30 years of work experience in various roles and industries. Marty is currently serving as the EVP & Chief Operating Officer at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since May 2021. Prior to this, Marty was an Advisory Board Member at Polyconcept North America since May 2018. From September 2018 to April 2021, they held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Audia. Marty also served as the Managing Director, Mergers & Acquisitions at Audia from March 2016 to April 2021. Marty started their career at Alcoa in October 2005, where they held the position of President, Strategy, Energy and Development until January 2016. Before that, they worked as an Associate Principal at McKinsey & Company from September 1998 to September 2005. Marty's early career includes a tenure at GE as a Manufacturing & Design Engineer / Program Manager from June 1990 to June 1996.

Marty Bates completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business between 1996 and 1998. Prior to this, Marty earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Penn State University between 1985 and 1990, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and General Arts & Sciences.
