Akbar Poonawala is the Co-Founder & Managing Partner at Pivot Investment Partners. Prior to this, they were with Tribeca Early Stage Partners. Before that, they spent 14 years at Deutsche Bank, where they were MD & Head, Global Transaction Banking (GTB) for Americas. And before Deutsche Bank, they spent 13 years at Bankers Trust Company, where they were VP/Director/MD - Head, Asian Business Development - Corporate Trust (CTAS)/Global Inst'l Svcs (GIS).

Akbar has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Akbar has a proven track record of success in building and growing businesses in Asia and the Americas. Akbar has closed 70 significant transactions with an annuity income stream in a market with entrenched competitors. Some of their notable deals include the 1st NASDAQ and 1st NYSE listed ADRs from India, the 1st 100-year bond, the 1st GDR from the Gulf, the 1st MTN, and the 1st power project with sovereign guarantee.

Akbar is a member of the DB Americas Executive Committee and GTB Global Executive Committee, Board of Directors, DB Americas Foundation.

Akbar Poonawala has a CFA from the CFA Institute, an MBA in finance from NYU Stern School of Business, a B.Com in accounting from Ness Wadia College of Commerce - Poona University, and an MBA in marketing from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies. Akbar also has a bachelor's degree in advanced accounting from Savitribai Phule Pune University and is certified by the CFA Institute in CFA.
