Shane Motley

Shane Motley has had a diverse range of work experiences. Their most recent role was as the Director of Energy Marketing at Placer County Water Agency, a position they have held since May 2022. Prior to this role, they worked as the Energy Marketing Manager at the same company from January 2018 to May 2022.

Before joining Placer County Water Agency, Shane worked as a Meteorologist at HDR from November 2016 to December 2017. Shane then spent almost a decade at Xcel Energy, where they held the position of Meteorologist / Trading Analyst from December 2007 to November 2016. In this role, they developed meteorological models, forecasts, and analysis to optimize the operations of the power system. Shane also handled meteorological support for energy trading, with a focus on wind and solar forecasting.

Shane's early career included roles as a Meteorologist at KBTX - TV 3 (CBS) from June 2004 to November 2007, where they integrated weather analysis into on-air broadcasts, and as a Research Assistant at Texas A&M University from September 2004 to November 2006. At Texas A&M, they conducted research on lightning and thunderstorm electrification and assisted with mobile radar operations. Shane also worked as a Teaching Assistant at Texas A&M from September 2003 to December 2005, teaching atmospheric science courses.

Shane's earliest known work experience was as a Research Assistant and Forecaster at the University of California at Davis from December 2002 to August 2003. In this role, they contributed to air quality studies and forecasts, as well as working on data quality issues with vertical wind profiler data.

Shane Motley attended the University of California, Davis from 1998 to 2003, where they pursued a degree in Meteorology with a field of study in Atmospheric Science. After completing their undergraduate studies, they then went on to Texas A&M University; College, where they obtained a Master's degree in Atmospheric Science from 2003 to 2006.
