Managing Director at Playwrights Horizons

Leslie Marcus has been the Managing Director of Playwrights Horizons since 1993. Prior to joining Playwrights Horizons, she was Executive Director of the Host Committee for the 1992 Democratic National Convention and then served as a Senior Management Consultant to the Mayor's Office in New York working on the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of the United Nations. She was Finance Director of Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s 1988 campaign for re-election to the United States Senate and Finance Director of David Dinkins' successful 1989 campaign for Mayor. Leslie was the Associate Director of Development for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and the Executive Director of the Battery Dance Company. Leslie has served on the Board of A.R.T./New York and as a theater panelist for the New York State Council on the Arts. During her tenure, she oversaw the rebuilding and expansion of Playwrights Horizons’ home on 42nd Street and created a strong and stable financial base for the organization while more than doubling the institutional budget from $4.4 to $10M. In partnership with Tim Sanford and the Board of Trustees, Leslie has built an open and thriving organization with a clear and enduring mission – to secure the vitality and creativity of new American theater.
