Mads Nissen has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of photography. Mads started their career as a photographer at Politiken in September 2014. Prior to that, they worked at Panos Pictures as a photographer and member since March 2011. From January 2009, Mads held the role of a staff photographer at Berlingske Tidende, specializing in foreign, investigating, and feature stories.

In addition to their work in the media industry, Mads also worked as a photographer at The Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation for International Photography in 2011. Mads has also been involved in teaching and mentoring young talents as a guest teacher at the Danish School of Media and Journalism from March 2009 to May 2010.

Mads gained significant freelance photography experience during their time in Shanghai, China, from January 2007 to December 2008. Mads participated in the Nordic Masterclass for young talents in June 2008 and attended the World Press Photo/ASEF seminar for young photographers in August 2006.

Mads Nissen began their education at Rougsøskolen, where they attended grades 1-8 from 1987 to 1995. Mads then pursued a Bachelor's degree at Den Frie Ungdomsuddannelse from 1998 to 2001, although the specific field of study is unknown. Later, Nissen enrolled at the Danish School of Media and Journalism from 2003 to 2007, focusing on photojournalism. In 2009, they participated in the Joop Swart Masterclass, which further enhanced their photography skills.
