Axel Gómez-Ortigoza has worked for several companies since 2011. Their first job was a Trainee at the Centro de Biotecnología FEMSA in 2011. Axel then worked as a Trainee at the Molecular Evolution Lab of CINVESTAV Unidad Irapuato in the same year. In 2012, they were a Pulmonary Research Division Assistant at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center - Cancer Prevention Research Training Program. In 2013, they worked on the iGEM Competition as a Cancer Bacteriotherapy - Tec de Monterrey, where they proposed the engineering of a bacterial delivery system to fight cancer tumors. In 2014, they were an Internship at the Advanced Medical Research Institute of Canada, where they worked on recombinant protein production on P. pastoris, extraction, purification and application on D. melanogaster assays. From 2015 to 2017, they were the Chief Scientist of the Research and Development Department at Biomedic Laboratorios S.A. de C.V. and the CEO of Polybion.
Axel Gómez-Ortigoza began their education in 2007 with a Bicultural High School degree from Prepa Tec ITESM Campus Irapuato. In 2008, they attended L'Institut Européen de Français for an Advanced French Summer Course. From 2010 to 2014, they obtained a Biotechnology Engineering degree from Tecnológico de Monterrey with a focus in Molecular Biology. Axel then graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from Laurentian University/Université Laurentienne in 2014.
