Project Mentor at Polygence

Laken Rivet has a diverse array of work experiences. Most recently, Laken worked as a Project Mentor at Polygence, where they guided middle and high school students in designing and executing 10-week projects. They provided guidance on scientific writing, manuscript review, and the scientific method, with a focus on data analysis and data science topics such as coding, data visualization, and statistical analysis.

Prior to that, Laken served as a Data Platform Engineer Intern at Zoetis, where they utilized Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing Services to assist in the planning, execution, and review of new data-driven projects. They also contributed to the creation of an internal self-service app to enhance company-wide data access and accessibility.

Laken also gained research experience as a Research Intern at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, working in Dr. Jessica Fortin's Drug Discovery Laboratory. They used various tools and software, including ImageJ, Adobe Cloud Applications, and Prism, to create publication-worthy figures and graphics.

Furthermore, Laken worked as a Supplemental Instructor at Kalamazoo College, conducting weekly review sessions and preparing materials for students in the field of Evolution and Genetics. They effectively communicated with professors and managed their time to balance review sessions with personal coursework.

Lastly, Laken gained research experience as a Research Intern at Saginaw Valley State University, focusing on pollution management in the Saginaw Bay Watershed. They developed products and methods to prevent future pollution problems and gained skills in project management and presentation.

Laken Rivet pursued higher education with dedication and focus. From 2017 to 2021, Laken attended Kalamazoo College and earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General. Building on this foundation, Laken went on to pursue a Master of Science (MS) degree in Data Science from Northwestern University starting in 2021. This two-year program will be completed in 2023.
