Marcus Wagstaff has a diverse range of work experience in the field of plastic surgery. Marcus started their career in 2003 as a Plastic Surgical Registrar with the National Health Service, where they worked until 2011. In 2012, they joined the Royal Adelaide Hospital as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and later became the Head of Unit for the Adult Burns Service. In 2016, they became the Medical Director at PolyNovo Limited. Marcus also worked as a Plastic Surgeon at St Andrew's Hospital, South Terrace, Adelaide, North Eastern Community Hospital, Advanced Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, and Parkwynd Private Hospital. In 2021, they joined the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons as a Fellowship Examiner.

Marcus Wagstaff has a comprehensive education history. Marcus started their academic journey at UCL in 1991, where they pursued a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) degree until 1999. During this time, they also completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Immunology with Basic Medical Sciences from UCL, which spanned from 1991 to 1994. In addition to their undergraduate degrees, Wagstaff obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular Pathology, specifically from UCL, between 1994 and 1997. Prior to completing their formal education, they attended the Royal College of Surgeons of England and acquired a degree in Plastic Surgery (FRCS(Plast)) which they completed in 2009. Continuing their specialization, Wagstaff pursued a fellowship in Plastic Surgery at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, obtaining a degree in Plastic Surgery (FRACS) in 2012.
