Shawn Malone

Project Director, The Mpilo Project at Population Services International

Shawn Malone has a diverse work experience spanning multiple organizations and roles. Shawn began their career in 1995 as an Associate Director at the Georgetown University Caribbean Project, where they planned and implemented conferences, research projects, and publications. From 2000 to 2002, they served as an Assistant Coordinator for the Brazil Program at the Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, supporting the planning and execution of various initiatives. Shawn then worked at the Center for National Policy as a Foreign Policy Program Coordinator, focusing on U.S. policy towards China, Taiwan, North Korea, and Cuba.

In 2002, Malone joined Pact as a Special Assistant to the President, where they facilitated communication and organized information sharing. Shawn later became a Program Manager, overseeing sub-award negotiations, reporting, and compliance. At the Global Fund for Children, Malone served as a Senior Program Officer for Latin America, managing a portfolio of grants and providing capacity building support to partners.

In 2007, they returned to Pact as a Deputy Country Representative in Thailand, managing a USAID-funded grants management and capacity building program. Shawn then became a Program Director in South Africa, overseeing a large-scale HIV prevention, care, and support program.

From 2013 to 2017, Malone worked at FHI 360, initially as a Deputy Regional Director, and later as the Director for Southern Africa. In these roles, they oversaw business development, program implementation, and donor relations for a diverse portfolio of multi-year projects.

Most recently, Malone has held leadership positions at Population Services International (PSI) and AVAC. At PSI, they served as the Project Director for The Mpilo Project, leading research and pilot activities in collaboration with partners. At AVAC, they were the Project Director for HIV Prevention for Adolescent Girls and Young Women.

Overall, Shawn Malone has a strong background in program management, grants administration, and capacity building, with a focus on HIV prevention and public health.

Shawn Malone completed a Master's in Public Policy (MPP) with a focus on Political and Economic Development from Harvard Kennedy School from 2000 to 2002. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) degree from Georgetown University from 1991 to 1995. Their areas of study at Georgetown included International Economics and Latin American Studies.
