Phil Stenstrom

Director, PDX Innovation & Customer Experience at Port of Portland

Phil Stenstrom began their work experience in 1993 as a New Business Development Manager at NP Steamship & Naviera Pacifico, C.A., where they developed new commercial customers and led special projects. Phil then worked at Avista Advantage from 1999 to 2002 as an Electronic Transactions Manager, overseeing a team processing invoices and payments. In 2004, they joined the Port of Portland as a Program Manager in Information Technology, leading the IT team and implementing automation projects. Phil worked their way up to become the Aviation Manager for Noise Management and later the Senior Operations Manager - Airside, where they oversaw operations, led emergency response teams, and addressed concerns about aircraft noise. In 2022, they transitioned to the role of PDX Innovation Manager, taking on responsibilities related to innovation and equity. Additionally, Phil volunteered as a Mediator at Resolutions Northwest starting in 2005, providing conflict resolution services.

Phil Stenstrom has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara. Phil also has an MBA degree in Finance, General from the University of Washington - Michael G. Foster School of Business. Additionally, Phil has participated in an MBA exchange program at Tecnológico de Monterrey.

In terms of certifications, Phil obtained the International Peace Fellow - Advanced Conflict Resolution certification from Rotary International in June 2017. Phil also holds the Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) certification from the American Association of Airport Executives, obtained in May 2017. Furthermore, Phil has a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute, obtained in July 2008. Lastly, they have completed the Executive Leadership Institute at Portland State University, although the specific month and year of completion are not provided.
