Tom Long has a strong background in IT and communications services. Tom started their career in 1987 at Compu-Time Inc. where they performed entry-level IT tasks and gained experience in desktop, system, and network support. Tom also worked on VAX/Alpha VMS mini-computer development and system administration. In 1993, they joined PartsVoice (Compu-Time) as a Software Engineering and Development Manager, where they developed software for data processing services and created the first public Internet site for the PartsVoice parts locating service. Tom also developed interactive voice response solutions for major automobile manufacturers. In 2000, they joined the Port of Portland as a Systems Engineer, where they introduced enterprise virtualization technologies and performed design and integration duties. Tom later became a Network Engineer responsible for secure network architecture, design, and integration. In 2008, they were promoted to IT Manager, overseeing the operation, maintenance, and integration of voice, video, and data communications systems. Currently, they are the Manager of the Central Projects Office - Communications Services at the Port of Portland, where they manage a technical communications infrastructure staff supporting capital project delivery and acts as a technical liaison with IT and external customers.
