Melanie Johnsen

Melanie Johnsen has extensive experience in the mental health field, currently serving as the Director of Acute Intensive Services at Porter-Starke Services, Inc. since August 2008, where responsibilities include oversight of acute programs and services, including an inpatient psychiatric facility and a 24/7 Crisis Center, while supervising a multi-disciplinary team. Previously, Melanie held roles as Director of Admissions & Emergency Services, awarded the Fred C. Skinner Award for Staff Achievement in 2015, and as an Admissions Specialist conducting psychiatric evaluations in various settings. Additional experience includes working as a Contract Psychometrist at DeSalvo Inc., an intern in the Juvenile Sex Offender Unit at Cook County Government, and as a Legal Assistant at Clausen Miller. Melanie holds a Master's Degree in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School and dual Bachelor's Degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Purdue University Northwest.

Porter-Starke Services is a comprehensive community mental health center that has served northwest Indiana since 1975. With offices in Valparaiso, Portage, Knox and La Porte, we provide behavioral healthcare services to children, teens, adults and families. We are licensed through the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addictions and are accredited by the Council on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Porter-Starke Services is also a Federally Qualified Health Center, operating Marram Health Center in Gary, Hebron, and Portage.
