Sonya Lopez is an experienced education and social services professional, currently serving as the Work Based Learning Coordinator for Porterville Unified School District since February 2020. With a focus on implementing work-based learning systems to enhance college and career readiness, Sonya develops student opportunities, conducts workshops, and creates strategic partnerships between businesses and schools. Prior experience includes a role as a Social Services Social Worker III at Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency, where Sonya managed complex cases and performed in-home assessments. Additional experience encompasses various roles including administrative positions within the Porterville Unified School District, research assistantships at UC Merced and Harvard University, and advocacy work at the Merced Valley Crisis Center. Sonya holds a Master of Science in Counselor Education and dual Bachelor degrees in Cognitive Science and Psychology from the University of California, Merced.
