Jill Smerkers began their work experience in 2009 as a Graduate Student Research Associate at the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University. From there, they joined Citizen Schools in 2010 and held various roles including Special Assistant to the President, Talent Operations Manager, Deputy Director of Talent Acquisition, and Director of Human Resources. In 2016, Jill joined Positively Partners as the Vice President of Professional Services, where they work with mission-driven nonprofit organizations to implement evidence-based approaches to HR operations, people management, and recruitment.

Jill Smerkers completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary/Special Education at Providence College from 2005 to 2009. Following that, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in Urban Education Policy at Brown University from 2009 to 2010.

In terms of additional certifications, Jill obtained the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification from HR Certification Institute - HRCI in July 2014. Jill then achieved the SHRM-CP certification from SHRM in January 2016.
