Asad Awan

Asad Awan has a diverse and extensive work experience, starting from their role as an SDE Intern at Microsoft in 2004. Asad then worked at Purdue University as a researcher, focusing on systems research related to networks, distributed systems, and operating systems. During this time, they built an operating system and a novel distributed system programming language for real-time stream data processing.

After their time at Purdue, Asad joined Conviva, a technology company, where they held multiple roles. Asad worked in new product development, rapidly creating innovative products based on market trends and customer input, including products for internet-connected TVs and boxes. Asad also served as an Engineering Manager, leading the development of highly scalable and low-latency real-time data processing and analytics products.

In 2011, they worked as the Head of Platform at Scrybe, contributing to the development of their platform. Asad then co-founded StreamUp in 2012.

From 2012 to 2019, Asad worked at Facebook, where they held the position of Director of Monetization and Public Content for the Facebook App. Asad was responsible for leading the monetization efforts, ensuring brand safety and integrity, and enhancing user experiences on News Feed and Stories.

In 2021, Asad joined Meta, previously known as Facebook, as the VP of Creators and Monetization for the Facebook App. In this role, they led the product and engineering teams, focusing on democratizing economic opportunities and enabling users to discover and connect with creators, public figures, and businesses.

Most recently, starting in October 2022, Asad became the CEO and co-founder of Potrero Labs.

Asad Awan completed their high school education at Karachi Grammar School, where they obtained their GCE A Levels in 1997. Asad then attended Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute from 1997 to 2001, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Afterward, they pursued further studies at Purdue University from 2001 to 2007, where they obtained both a Master's degree and a PhD in Computer Science.
