Sylva is a commitment to liberation through curiosity and claiming every bit of oneself. As a youth, her father’s homeschooling formed the bedrock of her racial resilience. She was oriented towards justice by the activist-educators of the Tyree Scott Freedom School and the small women of color-led organizations that queered her analysis and activism. She served as co-director of Seattle Young People’s Project and later hosted Recharge + Connect, a drop-in community care event for BIPOC folks, a project that concretized her identity as a lover, not a fighter. She is passionate about black girls and women discovering their power, resilience, and leadership. You can find her rolling down the hills at Jefferson Park or strolling along the waterfront.
