Jason has also been involved in legal research, writing, and policy development throughout their career.

Jason Kaplan's education history includes a variety of studies in the fields of clean/renewable energy, distributed generation, energy efficiency, energy economics, environmental law and policy, and geology. In 2015, they attended New York University and obtained a CGA-ACRE Certificate for Cleantech Professionals. From 2006 to 2009, Jason Kaplan pursued a J.D./M.S.E.L. degree at Vermont Law and Graduate School, focusing on environmental law and policy. Jason completed their undergraduate studies at Colgate University from 2002 to 2006, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in geology. Additionally, in 2005, they briefly attended the University of Wollongong to further their studies in geology/earth science.
