Stephen K. Breininger is PPL’s vice president-Corporate Audit.
Breininger oversees the development and implementation of a comprehensive audit strategy and program for conducting internal audit activities.
He is the liaison to the PPL Corporation Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and is responsible for reporting key audit results to executive management and the Audit Committee. As part of his role, Breininger is responsible for PPL’s Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance function.
Breininger has more than 25 years of experience in accounting, controllership, derivatives and financial reporting.
Prior to his current role, Breininger served as vice president, finance and regulatory affairs and controller of PPL Electric Utilities from March 2019 to March 2022. Prior to assuming that role, he served as PPL Corporation’s vice president and controller for five years.
He joined PPL in 2001 as a financial specialist in Financial Reporting before becoming the manager of that department in 2004. Other roles included serving as assistant controller-business lines for a year and for three years as controller for the former PPL Supply segment, which comprised PPL Generation and PPL EnergyPlus, the company’s marketing business. The competitive generation business was spun off in 2015 into Talen Energy Corporation, a new publicly traded independent company.
Before joining PPL, Breininger also worked for Wood Dining Services, Air Products and Chemicals, and he worked as a senior accounting and auditing assistant at Deloitte & Touche.
Breininger, who grew up in the Allentown area, earned an accounting degree from the Pennsylvania State University and a master’s of business administration in management from DeSales University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is treasurer of the board of the Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown, as well as serving on the board of ANIZDA.
