Andy Voelkel

Andy Voelkel has extensive work experience in the field of engineering, particularly in embedded systems and DSP (Digital Signal Processing). Andy currently holds the position of Principal Systems Engineer at Presidio Medical, Inc. which they started in May 2020.

Prior to this, they worked at SetPoint Medical from October 2012 to January 2019 as a Systems and Engineering Consultant. In this role, they were responsible for system architecture design and specification, as well as embedded design and programming using STM32, STM8, and Nordic BLE chip. Andy also worked on application programming to support system testing.

From December 2006 to March 2013, Andy worked at Plantronics, Inc. as a Principal DSP Engineer. Their responsibilities included providing audio systems support, developing new DSP features for wireless headsets, and creating software tools to streamline product development processes.

Before their time at Plantronics, Andy worked at Advanced Bionics as an Engineering Consultant and later as an Engineering Fellow. From 1988 to 1999, they authored production embedded code for Clarion implants and developed simulation environments for cochlear implant signal processing strategies. Andy also worked on creating efficient algorithms and analysis of noise shaping quantization filters.

From 2004 to 2006, Andy worked as an Engineering Consultant at Alfred Mann Foundation, where they performed system analysis, produced missing documentation, and mentored software department members.

Earlier in their career, they worked at Symbolics as a Design Engineer, focusing on gate array design and compiler development for RISC-based LISP machines. Andy also worked as a Design Engineer at Computer Audio Research Lab, where they designed DSP cards and pitch detection systems.

Andy Voelkel attended Harvey Mudd College from 1975 to 1977, where they studied engineering. Andy then transferred to Pomona College and studied music from 1977 to 1978. Finally, Andy attended Berklee College of Music from 1979 to 1982, where they focused on music performance.
