Matthew Vella

Matthew Vella currently serves as a Partner at Prince Lobel Tye LLP since August 2017 and as a Co-Founder of Invention Capital Associates since September 2016. Previously, Matthew held the positions of CEO and President at Acacia Research Corporation from November 2006 to December 2015, where the company focused on partnering with inventors and patent owners to license patents and generate revenue. Before that, Matthew worked as Senior Intellectual Property Counsel at ATI Research, Inc. from May 2005 to November 2006, defending against patent assertions and expanding the patent portfolio. Earlier experience includes serving as Lead Patent License Counsel at Nortel Networks, Inc. from January 1998 to April 2005, where substantial patent licensing programs were developed to create significant revenue. Matthew Vella holds a JD in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Toronto Law School and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Carleton University.
