George Tsai

Senior Associate at Principia

George Tsai is Associate Professor of Philosophy, and affiliated member of the Center for Chinese Studies, at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. His B.A. (Economics and Moral & Political Thought double major) is from Amherst College, and Ph.D. in Philosophy is from the University of California, Berkeley.

Before pursuing academic philosophy, he worked at Morgan Stanley as an Analyst in the Investment Banking Division (General Industrials Group) in the New York office.

He has also been a Research Fellow at the Australian National University and a Visiting Fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies of LMU-Munich.

His research interests are in moral and political philosophy, broadly understood to encompass contemporary analytic and cross-cultural (esp. Chinese) perspectives on these subjects, as well as such related areas as moral psychology and philosophy of law. His publications have focused on the moral complexity of relationships. He has published articles in venues including: Philosophy and Public Affairs, Journal of Political Philosophy, Pacific Philosophical Quarterly, Social Theory and Practice, Oxford Studies in Agency and Responsibility, Philosophy East and West, and Journal of Chinese Philosophy.
