Balaji Ganesan has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. In 2002, they worked as an Assistant Manager at Shaw Wallace & Co. From there, they moved on to Infosys Technologies Ltd. in 2003, where they served as a Lead Functional Consultant for three years. In 2013, Balaji co-founded XA Secure and served as the CEO and President. During their time there, they focused on addressing the emerging challenges of security and governance in the big data era. In 2014, XA Secure was acquired by Hortonworks, and Balaji continued to lead the team as the Sr. Director of Enterprise Security Strategy, contributing to the development of Apache Ranger, an open-source platform for data security and governance in the Hadoop ecosystem.

Since 2016, Balaji has been the Co-Founder and CEO of Privacera, a startup focused on enabling enterprises to balance data democracy and comprehensive governance in the public cloud. The company aims to empower enterprises to leverage data for analytics and ML/AI while maintaining robust security and privacy measures.
