Patricia Thaine

Co-Founder & CEO at Private AI

Patricia Thaine is the Co-Founder and CEO of Private AI. Patricia has also worked with the Public Health Agency of Canada, where they were a GPR Technology Officer, and with the University of Toronto, where they were a software developer and teaching assistant.

Patricia Thaine has always been interested in technology and its potential applications. Patricia became interested in artificial intelligence while studying linguistics at the University of Toronto. After graduation, they worked as a software developer, creating a program that converted an Inuktitut dictionary written in Latex to Word format. Patricia also created a website that displayed Ojibwe myths, along with the line-by-line recording of a native Ojibwe speaker reading them.

In 2017, Patricia Thaine joined the Public Health Agency of Canada as a GPR Technology Officer. In this role, they worked on a joint research project with PHAC's Global Public Health Intelligence Network group and the National Research Council for tracking disease outbreak in real time using newswire. Her role in the project was to automatically extract locations and determine which latitude and longitude they correspond to (e.g., does 'Paris' refer to 'Paris, France', or to 'Paris, Ontario'?), as well as to extract and reason about temporal and event information.

In 2018, Patricia Thaine left the Public Health Agency of Canada to co-found Private AI. Private AI is a company that is dedicated to developing artificial intelligence applications for the private sector.

Patricia Thaine has a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. Patricia also has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Computer Science and Linguistics from McGill University. Patricia has transfer credits in English Literature from Concordia University and they have a DCS in Liberal Arts from CEGEP - John Abbott College.
