Chiel Huffmeijer studied business economics at the Catholic University of Brabant.
After an intermediate step as a teacher in secondary education, he started his career in healthcare as a policy officer at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and later at the umbrella organization of the then health insurance funds. From 1986 he continued his career in the hospital sector. He held management positions at the Zuiderzee hospital (the later IJsselmeer hospitals) and the Hilversum hospital.
In 2002 he became chairman of the board of Leyenburg Hospital in The Hague (later Haga Hospital). In 2013, this hospital merged with the Reinier de Graaf hospital to form the Reinier Haga Group. Since then, Chiel Huffmeijer has been chairman of the board of directors of this group, to which the LangeLand Hospital in Zoetermeer also joined in 2015.
In his position, Chiel Huffmeijer was a member resp. vice-chairman of the board of the Dutch Association of Hospitals. He also holds a number of additional positions as a supervisor/supervisory board on the one hand care-related (such as rehabilitation center de Hoogstraat, LabWest and the Pharmacy Haagse Ziekenhuizen) or related (such as Zorgservice XL and Floronet Holding BV) but previously also in other areas such as the housing corporation de Alliantie. Chiel Huffmeijer joined the Supervisory Board in September 2016.
