Eric Carlson

President & CEO at Protein Metrics

As President & CEO, Eric has established Protein Metrics as a leader in protein characterization providing best-in-class products to industry and academia. Before joining Protein Metrics, Eric was a co-founder and senior vice president of Freeslate and spent 12 years at Symyx Technologies. The experience of a career working to streamline and revolutionize R&D processes has carried over into his present role. Eric has repeatedly created teams that develop tools focused on usability and efficiency, shortening development timelines, and making scientists more impactful in their organizations.

He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from NC State University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University. He is also an inventor of 34 published patents and is the lead author on a chapter on automation for stress testing studies in “Pharmaceutical Stress Testing: Predicting Drug Degradation,” 2nd Edition (Informa, 2011). He is also co-author on a wide variety of papers showing new developments in the biopharmaceutical industry.

When he’s not working at Protein Metrics, Eric can be found outside enjoying sunny California weather with his family: running, hiking, swimming, and skiing at Lake Tahoe.
