Matthew Watterson

Matthew Watterson is an experienced Advanced Manufacturing Engineer at Proterra Inc since July 2021, following a tenure as Suspension Subteam Leader with VT Motorsports Formula SAE from September 2017 to July 2021. At Virginia Tech, Matthew played a pivotal role in the design and manufacturing of suspension and chassis components for Formula 1 style race cars. Previous experience includes a Tooling Manufacturing Internship at SpaceX, managing rocket tooling for the Starship production line, and a Project Support Internship at Mack Trucks, where responsibilities included documenting parts for new trucks and writing work instructions. Matthew began teaching as a Taekwondo Instructor at Victory Taekwondo Academy in 2013, demonstrating leadership and organizational skills. Matthew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech.
