Chul Sung has a diverse and extensive work experience. Chul began their career as a Software Developer at SystemBase in 2002, where they customized Linux wireless and SPI serial EEPROM drivers. Chul then moved on to TechTrex Inc. in 2005 as a Software Developer, specializing in developing wireless transaction applications and point-of-sale device applications.
In 2005, Chul Sung joined LG Economic Research Institute as a Junior Research Assistant, where they worked on componentized modules for Hypermedia information coding, Multimedia Home Platforms, and Digital Video Recorders.
Chul Sung further expanded their skill set and knowledge by joining 3Scan in 2012 as an intern. During their internship, they developed biomedical frameworks using Python and surveyed quantitative studies of neurons in the rat cerebral cortex using machine learning techniques.
Continuing their pursuit of knowledge, Chul Sung joined Texas A&M University in 2010 to pursue a Ph.D. degree. During their time there, they mapped a whole mouse brain atlas to the Waxholm space, developed scalable learning algorithms for cell detection in microscopy data, and customized a vector graphics converter application.
In 2014, Chul Sung joined IBM as a Staff Software Engineer, where they managed Cloudsoft AMP/Brooklyn and Nessus with CVSS. Chul also designed a Microservices-architecture based core proxy application.
At IBM Watson Health Cloud, Chul Sung served as a Senior Data Scientist from 2017 to 2019. Chul focused on scalable infrastructure and platforms for data ingestion and integration in healthcare and developed machine learning algorithms for analyzing and modeling complex medical data.
Chul Sung then transitioned to IBM Watson Education & Research in 2018 as a Research Staff Member. Here, they contributed to the development of AI tutoring platforms, specifically improving the Short Answer Grading module using Transformer-based pre-training.
Most recently, Chul Sung joined Pryon in 2019 as a Senior Research Scientist. Chul designed and implemented large language models, optimized model architecture and training pipelines, and developed text-based query-document retrieval platforms using Transformer-based pre-training models.
Overall, Chul Sung's work experience demonstrates their expertise in software development, machine learning, natural language processing, and biomedical research.
Chul Sung pursued their education in the field of Computer Science. Chul completed their Bachelor's Degree at Yonsei University in 2002. Afterwards, they pursued further education and obtained a Master's Degree from Stony Brook University in 2008. Chul continued their academic journey as a Ph.D. Candidate at Texas A&M University, where they remained until 2014.
