Whitney Akhtar MSW, LCSW

Whitney Akhtar MSW, LCSW has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Whitney currently works as an Adjunct Lecturer at the School of Social Work, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, starting in 2019. In the same year, they also became the Director of Human Resources at PSYONIC.

From 2013 to 2016, Whitney was a Counseling Supervisor at Community Elements, and during the same period, they also worked as a Clinician II Counselor. Prior to that, they worked as a Hospice Social Worker at Harbor Light Hospice from 2011 to 2012.

In 2009, they gained experience as a School Social Work Intern at Hinsdale Central HS and as a K-12 Youth Program Intern at World Relief. Earlier in their career, they held positions at Loyola University Chicago as a Parking Office Coordinator from 2006 to 2009, and as a Conference Services Intern in 2006. Additionally, they were a Communications Intern at CAIR-Chicago in 2007 and worked at Streamwood Park District from 1999 to 2005, fulfilling roles such as Pool Manager, Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, and Assistant Swim Coach.

Whitney Akhtar MSW, LCSW completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies at Loyola University Chicago from 2005 to 2007. Whitney then pursued their Master of Social Work degree at the same institution from 2008 to 2010, specializing in Social Work. Prior to their bachelor's degree, Whitney attended Elgin Community College from 2002 to 2005.

In terms of additional certifications, Whitney obtained a certification in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) from the Center for Traumatic Stress in Children and Adolescents in July 2015.
