Joao Sousa has a diverse work experience in the field of public affairs and communications. Joao has worked as the Managing Director of the European office for the Public Affairs Council, where they provided executive training and thought leadership for members in Europe and globally. Prior to that, they were a Strategic Communications Adviser for various national institutions, international organizations, and NGOs, focusing on peace, development, and public governance issues in the Western Balkans, Africa, and Latin America. Joao also served as a Spokesperson, Communications Adviser, and Press Officer for the European Union missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kosovo, where they provided strategic communication advice to senior decision-makers. Earlier in their career, they worked as a Communication and Public Affairs Manager for Hill+Knowlton Strategies, where they advised public organizations, associations, and international businesses on EU policies and initiatives. Additionally, they have experience as a Communications Manager for Lift Consulting, assisting national and international companies with their communication activities. Joao Sousa's expertise lies in strategic communications, media outreach, reputation management, and EU policy monitoring.
Joao Sousa's education history includes a variety of degrees and fields of study. Joao earned a degree in Communication from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, which they completed from 2000 to 2007. Later, from 2006 to 2007, they pursued postgraduate studies in Political Communication at the University of Lisbon. Joao then went on to obtain a Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of Lisbon, which they completed from 2012 to 2014. Joao furthered their education by attending The Fletcher School at Tufts University, where they completed the Global Master of Arts Program in International Relations and Affairs from 2015 to 2016.
