Kerl Lajeune

Kerl LaJeune has over 30 years of experience in architecture and design. Kerl served as the Director of Planning and Design at the Public Building Commission of Chicago, overseeing the construction and renovation of public facilities. Prior to this role, they were the Deputy Director and Senior Design Manager at the same organization. Kerl also worked as a Senior Designer at Solomon Cordwell Buenz and founded their own architecture firm, Atelier Azara Architecture. Additionally, Kerl has held teaching positions at the Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Kerl has a strong background in education and has served as a design faculty member and an adjunct associate professor in various architectural programs.

Kerl LaJeune began their education at the University of Illinois Chicago in 1984 and completed their Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1992. During their time at the university, they specialized in Architectural Design and Structural Mechanics - Structures. Additionally, in 1990-1991, they participated in an exchange program at the Ecole nationale supérieure d'architecture de Versailles, focusing on Architecture. Kerl also obtained their NCARB Certificate from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards in May 1992. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained a Heartsaver First Aid, CPR & AED (BLS Certification) from the American Heart Association in March 2020, a Certified Marathon Coach - Level I from the Road Runners Club of America in February 2020, and an I C.A.R.E. OSHA Safety Certification from the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters in 2019. Lastly, in April 2019, Kerl earned a Certified Professional in Training Management from OSHAcademy Safety and Health Training.
