James Grutta

James Grutta is the current Senior Director of Product Innovation at Purple. James has held this position since May 2019. Prior to this, they were the Product Portfolio Manager at GOAL ZERO from January 2017 to May 2019. In this role, they directed the entire portfolio of products for Goal Zero, from concepts to production with a small team of Project Managers. James also mentored young PM's and added processes to the project management system to allow for company wide transparency into the entire product development process.

Before GOAL ZERO, James Grutta was a Sr. Product Developer & Design Engineer at Black Diamond Equipment from March 2004 to April 2014. In this role, they guided design and engineering (HW & SW) for dozens of products; LED Lanterns, Solar Panels, Powerbanks, and Large Lithium Portable Power Stations with enough power for short duration home backup. James also optimized the UI for the best possible UX available.

Prior to Black Diamond Equipment, James Grutta was a Project Engineer at Delphi Automotive Systems from March 1999 to March 2004.

James Grutta received a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University.

James Grutta reports to Rob DeMartini, Chief Executive Officer. They are on a team with Jack Roddy - Chief People Officer, Casey K. McGarvey - Chief Legal Officer, and Tres White - Chief Retail Officer.
