Ben Bakker

Technical Lead, Electrical and Firmware Engineering at PV Labs

Ben Bakker has over 20 years of work experience in the field of electrical and firmware engineering. Ben was the Technical Lead at PV Labs from October 2015 onwards, where they were responsible for hardware and FPGA development of motion control systems for aerospace systems. Ben also implemented processes for coding standards, code reviews, and training.

Prior to that, from January 2014 to September 2015, Ben worked as an Advanced Product Developer at Christie Digital. In this role, they focused on FPGA IP development and integration, as well as DMD integration and interface to high-speed video bus.

Before joining Christie Digital, Ben worked at L-3 WESCAM from April 1995 to June 2009. Ben initially served as an Electrical Designer, where they were responsible for the electrical design of high-speed digital systems using microprocessors and FPGAs. Ben also worked on analog and digital video systems, DC-servo motor drives, DC-switching power supplies, shielding, bonding, grounding, and impedance matching, following MIL/Aerospace standards. Later, as an FPGA Designer from July 2009 to December 2013, Ben was involved in architecting and designing FPGA subsystems, including CMOS sensors, laser safety interlocks, image processing, and digital video systems. Ben used VHDL synthesis, simulation, and ModelSim for their work.

Ben Bakker attended the University of Waterloo from 1987 to 1991, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics.
